Romans 15:13 March 26, 2012

Dan Sweitzer

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."
We all need hope in our lives, the belief that things will get better. We need aspirations of what we will be like as a person when our hope is fulfilled. Many of us even want a little anticipation, the growing excitement as we see our hopes being satisfied.

But Hope based only on general optimism and a "positive frame of mind" is not sustainable, as none of us are lucky enough that all our plans and strategies run smoothly from inspiration to completion. Circumstances of life can quickly bring anyone down into despair, the sense that things won't change for the better and nothing that I do will make any difference.

Hope is the opposite of despair. But only Hope which comes from trust in God and an acceptance of His plan for our lives can actually provide the unspoken strength that allows us to rise each day and to face the uncertainties of life. Only Hope fed us by the Holy Spirit can provide our souls with the divine strength we need to live our lives with joy and peace.

Prayer. Father, show me your plan for my life, that my hopes will also be yours. Amen.
