"When a wicked man dies, his hope perishes;
all he expected from his power comes to nothing"
I've always appreciated the role that "business" plays in our worldly structure. We have teachers, laborers, artists, etc. that serve important functions. However, commerce is the "necessary evil" that must exist as well.
There are wicked people in all walks of life, although it seems to be the overzealous businessman that makes the headlines alongside the murderers: "CEO of company arrested for fraud," or "Owner of business indicted for racketeering" and so on. The truly decent and honest leaders are greater in numbers, but as in any group of people, it's the action of the few that taint the rest.
I ask myself, "Why would you do that? You've been trusted to lead this group and control the lives of many, however you've become greedy, abused your power, and tried to accumulate power and wealth that isn't yours or due you."
The age-old adage is that you'll always get caught, maybe sooner or maybe later. While they should fear the laws of their country and people, I would hope that they would fear the law and judgment of their God even more. They can't take any of their power and money with them when they die. It would be far better for them to look forward to the great wealth that God has for them in heaven.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, help us to take the blessings you've given us and do the best we can with them. We may just live moderately with a great family and touch the lives of just those around us, or we may be natural leaders that rise to great heights and help many people and causes with money and time. Whatever your will is for us, let us not be greedy for power that is self-serving and have us only live as you've instructed us to. In your Son's name we pray. Amen.
