"If you lend to those from whom you hope to receive, what credit is that you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to receive as much again."
We have all lent things to our friends expecting something in return, for them to return the favor. But, have you ever lent something to someone and truly not expected anything back? I have and I feel like I have helped that person who was in need. If we continually are expecting to receive back what we lend to our friends, are you really a friend to that person? If you are always keeping track of the debt your friends are in, what does that make you? A bank?
The only person who has that privilege is God. He is the one who sent His son for us. It was God's son who was to die for us in the most horrific way. Yet, God is not the bank. God does not keep track of what we have asked of Him. He graciously gives us what we need without expecting anything in return.
This is the model that we, as Christians, should be following. When a favor is returned, be extra thankful and thank God. When we honor God and follow in His ways, we are returning God's favor. Remember, it is always better to give than to receive.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, Help us to remember to not keep track of debts like we were a bank, but rather to give generously and thankful that we are able to give to those in need. Help us to be extra thankful when the favor is returned back to us. You gave so much to us without any expectations of return. Please help us to remember this. Amen.
